Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar created history on Wednesday by slamming the first ever double century in the history of ODI cricket.

Batting first after India had won the toss, Tendulkar batted his way into the annals by breaking a 13 year old record – which had earlier been equalled – by scoring a double century.

India were buoyed by Tendulkar’s presence at the crease and ended with 401/3 in the fifty overs – their third ever total over 400 in the ODIs – and enhanced their chances of winning the series.

Movie Review:

After a lukewarm outing in Sathyam and Thoranai, Vishal attempts to play in a different arena this time, with a different make over, in a lighter romantic pitch with three beautiful maidens to give him company in Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai directed by newcomer Thiru who has done a decent job in his maiden flick.

TVP is about the romantic journey of Casanova Vishal and the lessons that he learns in his course. Vishal is the only child of bank manager parents and is armed with a different attitude. He wants only the best in every thing and even for a purchase of a cell phone, he goes all out to select the best. He extends this attitude to choosing his life partner and in the process corners three women- millionaire Neetu Chandra, Tanushree Dutta, sister of a thug Prakash Raj and Sara Jane a middle class girl and plays the game of love with them to choose his wife. The twists and turns Vishal encounters in his ‘mission-best-wife’ form the crux of TVP.

Movie Review:

The Ajith-Saran combination is at it again. Asal is in theaters and it is celebration time for all Ajith fans. The stakes are bigger this time with Asal being Ajith’s 49th film and it is also special because the titles of the film name Ajith as co-director of the movie. He is also credited for the story, screenplay and dialogues along with Saran and Yuhi Sethu. So, has the additional responsibility and control for Ajith worked well for Asal?

Asal is a story of feud between three brothers over property; two brothers (Sampath Kumar and Rajeev Krishna) on one side with their avarice for all the wealth with the righteous third trying to stop the family from breaking down. No marks for guessing who is the righteous one, who else but Ajith Kumar?! The feud that exists as an undercurrent in the presence of their father (Ajith again) turns ugly and personal after he passes away. Movie Review:

After Classic Westerns and Curry Westerns, the likes of Vishal Bharadwaj seem to have designed a desi sub-genre where the bucolic Bihar backdrops are credibly carried off by the rural realms of Maharashtra’s Wai village. Call it ‘Wai-stern’ or whatever, but from Omkara to Ishqiya this rough-and-tough sub-genre has often been an antidote to candyfloss cinema, while still having a heart and in the right place.

Seeking its spirit from the 1969 Hollywood classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and having a soul of its own, Ishqiya is the story of two rouges Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi) who are evading their boss Mushtaq (Salman Shahid). Nowhere to go, they seek refuge in a friend’s house and instead meet his widow Krishna (Vidya Balan).

Slowly and steadily both Babban and Khalujaan are attracted towards Krishna who uses her feminine charm to seduce them singly and slyly. Together the trio plan to kidnap an industrialist (Rajesh Sharma) for ransom but there’s more to the conspiracy theory.

Movie Review:

The Rann film opens with Purab Shasthri watching india 24/7 with his girlfriend, Nanditha Sharma (Gul panag). Despite the channel is not doing well, Purab idolizes his boss, and the owner of a news channel, Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan) with a man of principles. His ethics and emphasis on values make sure that his channel is not wowed by the sensationalism. On the other side, Amrish Karra (Mohnish Behl) operates his business with exactly the opposite ethics. Purab soon joins 24/7 and goes great guns with his stories.

Jay, Malik’s son is envious of the young Purab, and to save the channel he goes in the words of his brother-in-law who asks Jay to create a story exposing the Prime Minister Huda’s involvement in the recent bomb blast. All this was the planning of the Jay Seva Party president Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), who wants to be the next CM. Jay succumbs to the temptation and persuades dad that the story is true.

The news is processed without any revivification on the content, now this big news would definitely go with the CBI investigation, in which CM loses his job. In the climax the eight- minute impassioned talk of Amitabh Bachchan which would have been done even with out directing the film. Over all Rann is embarrassingly ill-researched movie which has to be more practical, then ethical when it comes to the point of framing or out-casting the facts of the television or the news media.

Almost every producer or director who signs up south siren Namitha for a film wants the bombshell to slip into a swimwear. Even when the role is of a girl-next-door, a raunchy song or a dream sequence featuring Namitha in skimpy outfits and flaunting what she’s famous for is inevitably squeezed in.

So, lyricist-actor Snehan’s grouch that he wants to see Namitha in traditional costume of girls in Tamil Nadu wasn’t without reason. At the audio launch of the upcoming Namitha-starrer ‘Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhalai’, Snehan said, “I want to see Namitha wearing pavadai thavani in a film. I’m sure that’ll be a hit among village girls.”

Smiling, Namitha responded to Snehan: “I’m willing to do roles where I have to wear a half sari. But, which director is willing to offer me such roles?” The hottie added that ‘Nil Gavani’ is different from other films that solely focus on her sex appeal.

Movie Review:

The story unfolds in a hospital where a Brahmin woman gives birth to a dead child and is replaced by a living child, who is one of the twins born to another lady.

‘Hey Ram’ Oh what a disappointment bole toh waste of such talents.

Imagine actors of the calibre of Naseruddin Shah, Om Puri and Padmini Kolhapure coming together and being a part of this worst thriller of the year which replays all the clichés, but delivers not a single of the expected guilty pleasures of a thriller.

The question is to whom to blame, the first timer helmer Rakesh Chaturvedi who shockingly thought that he can narrate this immaturely devised fit of inspiration where a young lad called Raam Kaushik played by the aakhri wannabe of this year Rishi Bhutani seems to trained in acting by some Hingorani (who’s that…..any way) who is in a state of shock as we are after 5 minutes of this tourturetainment in the name of entertainment.

Reason he is charged with the murder of his mother Archana Kaushik (Padmini Kolhapure – the only saving grace).

Mama was very dear to his shona, then why did he killed her…… kaho na kaho na kaho na asks investigating officer Indrajeet Singh Rathi (played by Om Puri……who has put on some weight by having extra portions of Aloo puri) but the hero falls into brief psychotic disorder.

Inspector then asks for help (and we cry for it silently) and consults a Psychiatrist, Dr. Ns. Negi (Naseruddin Shah what a waste) to determine the cause of Raam's state of mind and the reason for his silence. Doc is a chess fanatic. Arun Vaidyanathan is a US-based software professional-turned filmmaker who learnt filmmaking at the New York Film Academy.

Movie Review:

The debutant director Sakthivel and producers AGS Entertainment’s have dished out a clean, sweet, simple love story. It has enough charm to yield a fun matinee for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

But that’s it, as the film has nothing new in it story wise or in treatment. The first half is fun and frolic plus three songs, two of them dream songs in foreign locales. Post interval it takes a different route and becomes an action masala set in Kollywood’s wild west- South Tamil Nadu mainly Nagercovil.

Nakulan, one of the five boys in director Shankar's 'Boys', has grown in stature to establish himself as one of the important heroes in Tamil film industry. After a good showing in 'Kadhalil Vizhunthen' and 'Masilamani', the young actor is now ready with 'Kandha Kottai', a film by debutantdirector Sakthivel.

Produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment, the movie has Poorna of 'Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu' fame as the heroine. Dheena has scored music. Claiming that Nakulan would fulfill the expectations of the audience in 'Kandha Kottai', the director of the movie says: "He is a dedicated actor who takes pains for perfection. He delivers what the director wants."

The story is about a guy Siva (Nakul) who lives in Kandha Kottai, a residential colony in Chennai and has some friends like Santhanam who is always running after girls. However Siva loves to play spoil sport and separate lovers who are planning to get hitched. At the other extreme is our heroine Pooja (Poorna) a college student residing in Nagercovil who loves to play cupid and unite lovers.

Pooja comes to Chennai on a mission to unite her cousin with his lover who later we find is Siva's sister! There is firework’s initially when their paths cross but soon it is the beginning of a new chapter in their life as they fall madly in love! In the second half, the story takes a U- turn as Siva goes to Nagercovil and discovers that the local goon Annachi (Sampath) is baying for the blood of Pooja. The male lead is played by Vishnu who is awaiting matrimony and Ileana as the female lead. The movie is directed by YVS Chowdary who has high hopes on this movie. The music is being composed by Sandeep Chowta.

The inauguration of the movie took place as Dasari Narayana Rao striked the clapboard for the shooting to commence. The camera was rolled on by Nagarjuna Akkineni and the scene was directed by K.Raghavendra Rao. The script was handed over by Mr & Mrs Mohan Babu to perform the pooja. The harathi was performed by Prabhas after Kalyanram Nandamuri lighted the lamps.

Movie Review:

The sparkling stunts, the fiery punch lines, the signature lighter moments and some foot tapping numbers, everything that makes a Vijay film worth your time in theaters are there in his latest offering Vettaikaran. But then, every film of Ilaya Thalapathi has all these things, you might ask. Yes, but it is the execution that makes each one different from the other and the question as you enter theaters to watch this movie is whether newcomer Babu Sivan has managed to pull the formulaic one man army theme out of the rut that it has recently fallen into.

The storyline is very familiar to anyone who follows Vijay movies. A small town do-gooder (Vijay) idolizes an honest super cop of his town. The cop is merciless against all evil forces, an encounter specialist who doesn’t believe in arrests and judicial procedures; he just guns down the perpetrators. The small town do-gooder wants to emulate this cop. But, the only problem facing him is that to become an IPS officer, one must first pass out of school and then get a graduate degree. His failure at academics is an irritant to his father, quite understandably. Keeping his eventual dream in mind, he somehow gets over the hurdle and heads to the big metropolis (Chennai) to seek his graduation and the IPS dream. Chennai, expectedly, greets to him a) good college education b)part time employment and c)a heinous goon whose crime rate is like no one that he has seen before. The rest is all about the mission to eradicate evil. How does he do it? Does he become an IPS officer and bring them to law or does he become a force on his own, hunting them down like the title of the movie suggests? Find out in theaters. And yes, there is a love story in the midst of all this which you are bound to notice because of the songs.

After hearing the synopsis one might be excused for branding this another stereotype fair. But, this one is better than that. Yes, it is undeniably a full fledged commercial flick with a lot of heroism and related stuff, but there is also a certain level of finesse in the execution. The first half is a whole lot of fun. Vijay puts on a jolly and youthful demeanor which has worked very well. Along with Sathyan, they create many an enjoyable moment. The scenes on the train journey, where Vijay meets Anushka for the first time, have really come out well. It is the second half where the predictability starts to set in. A few clichés later, like the hero’s transformation in the duration of a song, you almost know where the film is heading. The script, which remained alright for most parts, looks unduly stretched during the final portions, the end could definitely have been crisper.

The film, in spite of its flaws and stereotypes, is bound to click with Vijay fans. The main reason for that is the seemingly rejuvenated Vijay on screen. He looks refreshed, energetic and lends zing to the proceedings on screen. His dance moves have not lost any of their sheen, the opening number ‘Naan Adicha’ is a cracker that will surely be lapped up by his fans. Junior Vijay’s act towards the end of this number is very likeable. The ‘karigalan’ song too looks and sounds very good while ‘Puli Urumuthu’ is the typical one that catalyses the transformation of the protagonist. Besides these, the other songs don’t gel well into the narrative which is a drawback. The highly anticipated Vijay-Anushka chemistry does not provide any spark on screen which disappoints. Surprisingly, Anushka does not look as ravishing as usual and she also does not get much footage in the film other than songs. It is a bit of downer for the actress after the Arundhathi high.

Other performances live up to the requirements of the script. Sathyan, along with Vijay, makes the first half work with his comic acts. Saleem Ghouse is the typical bad man while VMC Haneefa leaves a mark in his small role. Sukumari shows her experience in the portions given to her and Sayaji Shinde is in full form as a cop loyal to the evil master.

Babu Sivan must be commended on a good effort, thought not without its flaws. He has handled the dialogue department with care and come out with good results. Action is a regular Vijay style and will cater to his fans.

Vettaikaran is an out and out Vijay film, straight to his fans who are bound to be happy with the outcome, considering the last two offerings which did not please many. A fun first half and an action packed but predictable and a bit jaded second make a pretty reasonable final product for all those who don’t mind commercial mass masala without caring for things such as reason or logic.

When the director is James Camaron, expectations must be soaring. This extremely brilliant director gave us a fantastic movie, perhaps one of his best shots, Titanic in the year 1997. It got tremendous success. After watching his Movie Avatar, it can be said that he has been able to maintain his standard. The titanic was based on a love story. The ship was used as a medium and the catastrophe as the catalyst to the story. Here the subject is being treated completely in different way.

Sam Worthington is playing the main character here. The name of his character is Jake Sully. The whole story centers round this character. Jake, who is an ex- mariner, was paralyzed from the waist in a battle. He, therefore, decided to participate in the Avatar show to get back his normal and healthy body. Thus he was ready to journey to Pandora, a dense forest enriched with several terrifying elements. In this very place, Na’vi, a particular human race lives. Their look and behavior is quite monkey like, but their brain is much more developed than a human being. They are harmless and love to live unified in their own world. When some people try to intrude their land in search of some rare kind of minerals, they become impatient and aggressive.

Here comes the actual story. Jake, who is completely innocent about the minerals and everything, becomes a part of the infringement. Avatars take many policies and steps to win over the Na’vis. Audiences here can see some excellent movie and sound effects which are just awesome. James has successfully blended a love story in this adventurous thriller. Jake falls in love with a beautiful, young Na’vi girl. What will happen then? Let it not unfold here, otherwise you will lose interest to watch this film.

It can be said that it is a must watch movie. The cinematography, sound effects, editing special effects; all are just excellent. The director has shown innovation in creating the Nav’s. These blue complexioned, monkey types elements are excellently featured in this film. Sam Worthington is wonderful. This thirty three years old Australian movie star has done a brilliant job. He makes his character convincing to the audiences. Other artists have also justified their characters. The movie is going to be released worldwide on the 18th December, 2009. It is hoped that it would be one of the most block bluster Hollywood movies.

Movie Review:

Don't give perplexed looks if you walk into the theatre not knowing the meaning of Pravarakhyudu. Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam explains the word in detail a little late but it does clear your doubts. Madan has come up with an easy-going, interesting and a good screenplay that revolves around two adults. Jagapati Babu is analytical, practical, cool and a sensible man whereas Priyamani is sensitive, impetuous. An incident separates them while in college and after a few years they work in the same college. Jagapati as Sashi Kumar and Priyamani as Sailaja share wonderful chemistry and both of them as college students and little later as principal and professor make the story very engaging.

Sashi Kumar's character is interesting. He's straight, no love letters and no hesitation when he proposes to Sailaja. He even explains to her that there is nothing such as love and that it is hormones that attract two living things, it is the society that has created certain mores and customs to control the animal instinct and has given it a legal status called marriage to cohabit. Love could arise anytime or there could be no love at all. Sailaja finds the explanation unsettling and cannot imagine a relationship without love and finds the hero's character full of hypocricy.

A simple concept such as this has been shown in a very simple manner and it could be a rewarding experience for college students who are going through the first flush of love/attraction. Jagapati Babu does his bit too vary his looks and his performance is endearing and stands out. He plays the indifference to perfection. Priyamani is growing as an actress with every film and has taken her character's ego, haughtiness and peculiarity to another level by giving the right expressions. Brahmanandam is funny, never take sit too far, just right as a man who carries tales to Priyamani.

Movie Review:

The story goes like this: Sakthi is a happy-go-lucky guy, but his father Sethupathi, a clerk, has great dreams that his son should become a successful engineer. Realizing Sakthi’s inability to be outstanding in studies due to his limited brainpower, his father stops compelling him to become an engineer; rather, he inspires him to choose any vocation he can shine in! Sakthi’s peaceful family life suddenly vanishes when his parents are brutally murdered (in front of him and an apathetic public) by Kathir, prime accused of a murder case in which Sakthi’s father was a key eyewitness. Broken up by the painful and tragic loss of his loving parents, Sakthi decides to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days

Due to his shy nature, Sakthi has to undergo severe harassments from the jail guards, where he meets four young, inborn criminals including lame Dabba and fat guy Pandu. He becomes friendly with them only to avoid torment from the jailers. Sakthi has no plans to join the group, but at the same time, is greatly attracted by their love and concerns. The four guys plan to escape from jail; at the last moment, they forcibly take Sakthi to the world of freedom and gradually introduce him to a criminal life.

In flashback, the guys come to know about Sakthi’s past and decide to kill Kathir. After executing Kathir, the five friends take a train to Mumbai to avoid the police special force, but fate leads them to a local don in Renigunta (near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh). In Renigunta, Sakthi meets a dumb girl and love slowly blossoms between them. In fact, the girl’s brother-in-law is a pimp, procuring for his own wife. Realizing her husband’s intention to introduce her dumb sister into the fresh trade, the akka requests Sakthi to elope with her younger sister. With the consent his friends, Sakthi fixes a date to leave the place with his lover.

Meanwhile, the local don hires these five friends to kill a prominent contractor, leading to a big twist in the whole story. The murder attempt fails; Pandu is beaten to death on the spot by contractor’s security guards. The special force swoops down on the rest of the teammates who are brutally killed one by one, except for Sakthi. Whether he manages to escape from the police and accomplish his dream of a peaceful life with his lover forms the rest of the film.

One can’t say that Renigunta only has bloody violence; it also has plenty of (black) comedy, romance and sentiments, and all components are convincingly presented just as in Subramaniapuram. Thanks to director Panneerselvam, Renigunta is completely free from any sort of exaggeration, be it in graphics, number of songs, length and “superman effects” of the fight scenes. All credit goes to Panneerselvam’s clean script, the highlight of the film, which gives everything in the right proportion. In short, Renigunta simply rocks!

A hypnotic tale, the story begins with a series of incidents wherein just to deliver pregnant women end up having their babies. However, the babies start disappearing and the mothers barely make it alive. The special task force calls for Venkat (Ravi Babu) to investigate the case and he along with Kiran (Sindoora) and others narrow down to one man (tarakaratna). He doesn't talk much but though he is inside the baby abductions continue. The story takes a turn when one of the victims is targeted to be Latha (Sneha), Venkat's wife. Who is doing all this? What is the link between them and the man inside the jail? Who is Amaravathi? All this forms the rest of the story.

The director has come up with a thought provoking tale but then he has not been able to give his best in the narrative and had few flaws in presentation as well. The dialogues were weak, the script was just okay, the screenplay was good in places. Background score was too loud and was unnecessarily distracting, it was good at some scenes but overall, it was more of a annoyance. No songs in this. Cinematography was above the average mark. Editing could have been better. Costumes were good, art department was over active. Ravi Babu did his bit with ease and he was there in literally all the frames, Bhumika was brief but cute, same goes for Sneha, Sindoora looked elegant, the real show stealer was Tarakaratna who looked handsome and created impact. Subhashini was standard, Kota came and left, Paruchuri was alright, the others did their bit to add value to the film.

The film goes a bit on the lines of 'Silence of the Lambs' and there is a mix of psycho element and scientific element. The first half doesn't have anything great as it is repetitive but the real story begins in the second half and that engages the audience. The makers should have avoided the flashy cop outfits and cut the background score to a large extent. The technical aspects are fine but content was not in rhythm. The film may not go well with all the genres of audience so it depends on the word of mouth to get to the success mark.

It is one of the abiding mysteries that why should a Hindi film that had only an average run be remade in Telugu. The question should be put to Sravnthi Ravi Kishore, the producer, and B V Ramana, the director of Premate Inthe. Socha Na Tha, the Hindi original, had an average success only because the press was sightly soft on the newcomer Abhay Deol, son of Dharmendra. with Socha Na Tha being no great shakes why it should have been remade?

Partly maybe because it fits into the genre of films (friendship and love) that Sravanthi has made a career out of. But Premante Inthe falls short of expectations because there is no momentum or push from the script and the story plods along like your local passenger train, stopping at every turn. Had it not been for the sprightly performance from Navdeep and the two girls, coupled with some lilting melodies from Koti, the film would have been in a more difficult predicament.

The film centers on Veeru (Navadeep) who has a strong crush on Lizi (Rupali). But the hero isn't bold enough to get across his emotions of the heart to the girl. His rich family meanwhile wants him to marry another rich girl Pavani (Poonam). But she is also not positively inclined towards marriage. So Veeru and Pavani hatch a plan and scupper the match. Ergo there is some friction between the families.

Based on a poem on universal love by lyricist Sirivenella Sastry, ace director Krishna Vamsi describes his next release "Chakram" as a "classic drama".

The director, who has completed a decade in the film industry, may have disappointed with his last release "Sri Anjaneyam", but as the release for "Chakram" draws near, the entire film fraternity is optimistic.

"It will have action but it is not an action movie," informs Vamsi. According to him, "Chakram" denotes a circle that describes the course from a mother's womb to the universe.

Vamsi has worked on Prabhas' looks to make the role memorable. His favourite actor Prakash Raj has been signed to play a "key" role. Aasin and Charmi will lend the glamour elements.

Charmi, who played a loud-mouthed village belle in "Sri Anjaneyam", will be seen as a sophisticated girl in "Chakram".

"It's a cute role and I was happy to work with Vamsi again," she says.

The film is based on a poem Sirivenella Sastry had penned some three decades ago.

However, it's the time for myths to be broken, and Raaptor Media Film's Mathiya Chennai (Central Chennai) is one of these, detailing the travails of an assistant director as he makes his way towards success.

With a group of lyricists like Vaali, Pazhani Bharathi, Muthulingam, Na Muthukumar and Mu Mehta penning the words and maestro Ilayaraja scoring the music, here's a look at what the Tamil album has to offer.

The maestro's voice rises in mournful lament in Ezhaikkintha Ulagam and no matter that you've heard this particular refrain in other albums like Pithamagan, it still manages to make you get involved in the song. The number itself possesses simplistic lyrics -- a diatribe against the misfortunes that attack poverty, and follow a set pattern. The instrumental arrangement in the second segment is rather heart-warming, as also the chorus, even if you're reminded of that other classic, Amma, Enthan Aaruyire.

En Da Dei begins in colloquial fashion, with the players carrying on a conversation about getting somewhere in life, with startling resemblances to Virumandi's Kombula Poova Suthi. Sung by Rahul Nambiyar, Vijay Yesudas and Tippu, this number is all about achieving the impossible, added to by a gaggle of female voices, all clamouring for attention. The lyrics are fashioned in an enthusiastic manner as well: all about dreaming big dreams and catching falling stars when you can. It's not particularly new -- the score fits into mandatory patterns and heard-before effects.

A peppy collage of instruments begins Ilavayasu Pasanga, sung by the inveterate trio as the previous number, and it looks like the composer has turned to his own eighties compositions; maybe he's trying to bring the trend back. It brings back memories of numbers like April Madathil, when you had a group of baggy panted hero wannabes singing about how young girls should behave. If you can ignore the terribly cliched lyrics, this song, while not brilliant, does have a nostalgic effect.

Beginning in typically dappankuthu fashion, Sullikkuppam Ganapathi is exactly what it seems -- sung by the trio as before, it's all about paying obeisance to the god who makes all things possible. The number's accompanied liberally by whistles, and the fond hope that the protagonist succeed in his dreams, namely cinema. The pluses are its swift pace and colloquialisms -- but you've heard tons of numbers like these before.

Sadhana Sargam begins Un Vaazhve Oru Kathaiyakalam in her characteristically sweet voice -- pity that the lyrics sound so very amateurish, considering the wealth of writing talent that's come together for the album. The tune tries valiantly to shore up the weak words and succeeds to some extent, especially in the interludes that remind you of the disco-esque music of the eighties. But there's only so much music can do for boring platitudes and pep-talk that would suit a discourse, rather than verse.

This is a modern love story about a RJ (Radio Jockey) Vivan Shah (Himesh Reshammiya) who is undergoing a bitter divorce. He meets an RJ Shanaya (Shehnaz Treasurywala), who is the daughter of DIG. Vivan is a successful RJ on a popular radio channel in the city of Mumbai. Vivan has got everything in life except his marriage.

He takes divorce from his wife Pooja (Sonal Sehgal), the reason behind is the lack of compatibility between the two. But in their hearts Vivan and Pooja don’t want to take divorce but the fast pace of life and busy schedules forces them in to imbalance their relation. Instead of suffering more, they choose to go their separate ways.Suddenly one day Shanaya (Shenaz Treasuryvala) enters vivan’s life and brings a smile to his face.

Vivan blatantly discusses everything about Shanaya with Pooja. Pooja identifies his love on Shanaya, becomes the catalyst to bring this realisation that his true love is Shanaya.

Radio movie tries too hard to attract audience, but we can say Himesh bagged one more flop. Director Ishaan Trivedi attempts to take a modern-day look at relationships to add that youthful feel to his film but fails to capture the right pulse. Himesh isn’t bad but his act is excessively rehearsed. Shenaz is carries a constant smirk on her face, and that made irrespective of the situation.

Would he be as good in selecting a story to cast himself in, was the big question, given that ‘Paruthiveeran’ ended up as the most cloned film in recent times.

However, he has chosen a role that does not call for a power packed performance. The Chennai thuggie, tough and mean, has been played by everyone from Jiiva to ‘Jayam’ Ravi, the only difference being in the number of baddies each one can tackle.

What is even more disappointing is that ‘Yogi’ reminds you too much of‘Tsotsi’, Gavin Hood’s brilliantly made film on a ruthless killer and his epiphanous meeting with a small baby, in a rob-and-run case which goes horribly wrong..Left holding the baby, Tsotsi takes care of it including changing diapers, finds a foster mother to breast the child and distances himself from his cronies. Gradually, he has a change of heart and decides to return the child.Hood’s handling of the Tsotsi’s harrowing past as an abused child is shown in fine flash back, and the boy’s sorrow, and the film’s climax are images which are unlikely to be forgotten.

Considering that the story and dialogues are by Ameer, the close prattle between the two films is a tad disappointing. Showing the baby Jessie father Lynden Fernando (Asokan) as wanting to kill the baby because she was fathered by someone else in unconvincing. There is very little by way of depth of characterisation, and the director over-stretches episodes by way of tears or extended abuse. Given that it around us all the time, merely portraying the same does not leave you shaken and stirred.However, Yogi is raw in many places, and acting sits easily on his shoulders. he makes very effective use of his eyes, and unlike the original there are plenty of fight scenes here. Madhumitha as the foster mother easily cruises between high hysteria and soft firmness. Devarajan, as the abusive father stands out, but Tamil cinema has been too full of such characters. Wish Ameer had shown a little more care in shaping the story.

One might argue that even the first part too looked pretty much like a glamour parade. But, there was also the plot of the police being on the trail of this serial womanizer, his eventual arrest and an interesting courtroom battle where the accused becomes the acquitted through continuous denial and careful arguments. This element goes missing here. The law is not after him. The women who have been subject to his treachery do try to get back at him together, but it is too weak and too late in the movie to salvage lost interest.

It is a timid sort of a response to a huge fraud that has been committed and is snuffed out pretty nonchalantly by the criminal; does not make for engaging viewing at all. It is as if the Casanova is walking from room to room through doors that open at a click; the women fall so easily into his trap. He moves from one woman to the next, easily accomplishes his mission and takes away a huge amount of money. It is like different episodes of the Casanova’s exploits being put together. The only connecting subplot comes in the form of Sangeetha’s character that plays a handicapped immigrant Sri Lankan widow. She is facing a tough situation regarding the custody of her only child.

She needs money to settle the issue and surprisingly our Casanova comes to her aid, giving her the required amount which of course has been aggregated from his games with many innocent women. The climax too is on expected lines. He easily evades the efforts of the wronged women to corner him and escapes to some distant place where he is ready to begin his games afresh. The means that another sequel is on the minds of the makers!

De Dana Dan almost marks a decade of the end of the sensitivity and sensibility of director Priyadarshan who switched on to commercially driven comedy capers post the success of Hera Pheri . De Dana Dan also almost marks a decade of the widespread acceptability that the slapstick genre has gained in scarcity of sane comedies.

Going by its casting, do not expect De Dana Dan to be a sequel, tribute or extension of the Hera Pheri series. Forget the threesome chemistry, there is hardly a single frame in the film where the trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal share screen space. Except of course for the trademark Priyadarshan style chaotic climax where again their chemistry is diluted (literally through flooding fuss) as the entire cast joins them for more commotion.

Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is a driver under debt and Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) is a courier boy who hasn’t delivered much in life. Though both have already assigned girlfriends (Katrina, Sameera) for them, the film still takes too long to come to point. Money is the need of the hour and so Priyadarshan does some hera pheri in the story – which means a kidnap. Just this time the duo kidnaps a canine and you wonder if the film is going to the dogs.

As you try to keep a count on the ever-increasing character artists, the entire cast checks-in a five star hotel. Soon the story takes the shape of the 1992 Hollywood flick ‘ Blame it on the Bellboy ’ which was remade in Bollywood just a year ago as ‘ One Two Three ’ (and also starred Sunil Shetty and Sameera Reddy). A comedy of errors ensues with characters doing Bhagam Bhag throughout the hotel.

Call it a ‘wardrobe’ disaster but Akshay Kumar is locked in one for practically an hour of the film’s runtime. With a seemingly lost Sunil Shetty and a screeching loud Paresh Rawal, it’s left up to the character artists to save the ship. But a flood is induced in the climax as the director seeks inspiration from another Hollywood flick ‘ The Towering Inferno ’ (1974) with each character going down the drain.

A movie on the life of one of the greatest of the rulers of Kerala has been in the rounds for the last two decades. In fact, MT Vasudevan Nair, one of the master scriptwriters of all times, had been on this thinking from the days of his 'Oru Vadakkan Veergatha' which came out in 1989. Now after 18 years from this epoch making movie, 'Pazhassi Raja' is slowly but steadily shaping up under the directorial ship of ace director Hariharan,to become the biggest epic movie of our times.

The movie which was in the making since May, last year is into its last session which will get completed with another 25 days of shoot. Most of the important scenes of the movie are shot with four cameras working simultaneously. The movie planned with the biggest ever budget for a Malayalam movie (rumored to be more than eight crores), is produced by Gokulam Gopalan, who also consider the movie as his prestige project.

This magnum opus is expected to bring out the story of the first organized revolt against British rule, led by Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Padinjare Kovilakom of the Kottayam family near Thalassery in Kannur district.

"The story of ‘Pazhassi Raja' one of our first, but least known freedom fighters, appealed to me also because it offered tremendous visual possibilities in the backdrops of the forests and the wars. We know about the high expectations people haveon the film and are confident that we will be able to live up to it'', says the director Hariharan.

‘Pazhassi Raja’ popularly known as the Lion of Kerala isn't well known outside Kerala, but he was one of our country's first freedom fighters. He had to reckon with the armies of the Mysore rulers as well as the British. The British first used him against Tipu's army and then reneged on their treaty. And more, the Raja was agitated by the unpopular revenue policy followed by the East India Company in Malabar .He then threatened to stop collecting taxes if the Company continued with this mode of revenue collection. Even before the much celebrated Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, Raja spear headed an attack againstthe British who made a futile attempt to capture the Raja in his own palace at Pazhassi in April 1796.

The British company then made proclamations which forbid people from supporting the Raja, threatening to confiscate the property of all who are supporting Pazhassi. In 1797 the Raja's men launched attackon the security personnel stationed at Pazhassi, and in continuous battles that were fought over three days, Pazhassi's men were able to overpowerthe British forces, using swords, spears, bows and arrows . With an army of thousands of Nairs , Pazhassi inflicted such defeat on the British that they were forced to retreat and negotiate. This forced the British to sign a temporary armistice, in accordance with Raja's wishes.

‘Pazhassi Raja’ once again revolted against the occupants when the British decide to take over Wynad in 1799, after the fall of Sreerenga Patanam. This time the British had an upper hand as they controlled most of the south. They confiscated Raja's properties and proclaimed a reward for capturing him. Raja who fled from the palace, took refuge in the jungles accompanied by his wife and immediate attendants.

Raja tried to continue his warfare with the help of aadivasas and his loyal Kurichiyar tribe. Using guerrilla tactics and informers, he kept the British on tenterhooks for longer than any other regional ruler. But on November 30 1805, the Raja was surrounded by Thomas Harvey Babar, a young British officer on charge of suppressing Pazhaassi and was shot dead in an operationon the banks of Mavila Thodu.

Hariharan, MT Vasudevan Nair and Mammootty, are sure that they are in the making of and
a film that will become a milestone in Malayalam cinema.

Pazhassi Raja is a historical subject. Mammootty, Hariharan and MT Vasudevan Nair who gave Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha to malayalam cinema is now doing this film. The story is all about a King who belong to Kottayam royal family, revolt against the Britishers. Till today, most of the Indians will say "Sepoy Mutiny of 1857" as the first war of Independence. But, Pazhassi raja was the first Indian who fought against British in 1796. Mammotty plays the role of Raja, and Kanika, the young heroine plays the wife ( queen ) of Raja. Sarath kumar makes his debut in malayalam as the friend to Raja. Padmapriya plays a tribal village girl role. The film canned by Pan Vision camera and exploits the latest technical advancements for this movie and the release would be in Christmas 2007.

Our sources say that the Oscar Award winner Rasool Pookutty has been offered a chance in Mammootty’s upcoming movie Pazhassi Raja. The movie is already famous for it’s veteran cast and crew. With legendary writer M.T.Vasudevan Nair writing the script for the movie and Hariharan as the director itself the movie has gained its highest standards. In addition to this, is Rasool Pookutty is also going to be a part of this magnum opus historical movie, then there is no doubt that the movie will turn out to be one of the best in Indian Cinema. Megastar Mammotty, who is playing the role of Pazhassi Raja, has also got Tamil actor Sarath Kumar to play the role of his intimate friend.

The movie will have Telugu actor Suman to play the role of the villain called Pazhaiveetan Chandu. The producer Gokulam Gopalan, has already spent a whoppinh 20 Crores for the movie.
